The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) has criticised the FSA for not getting involved in the missold mortgages with Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) scandal.
The FOS has hit the out at the industry for being addicted to frequent mis-selling scandals.
Tony Boorman, principal ombudsman at the FOS stated that that his organisation has been left more than 100,000 complaints from the PPI scandal and that the mortgage industry has become its own worst enemy.
He further asserted that, in his opinion, the mortgage industry is addicted to frequently misselling mortgages .
So what lessons does he suggest we can learn from PPI and other missold mortgages cases?
Firstly, he suggests that there ought to be early and firm action which benefits parties involved. He also attacks the FSA, as regulator, for not acting in a more decisive manner when the scandal erupted. Moreover, he says that there also needs to be greater transparency on part of the FSA as to how they have handled specifics of cases.
Furthermore, the FOS is going to consider how best to publish decisions later this year.
