The Association of Mortgage Intermediaries promotes mortgage advice
Tue, 26 Apr 2011
The Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI) is seeking to secure a marketing budget of 2 million pounds to fund a campaign aimed at consumers, educating them on the benefits of mortgage advice .

AMI represents the majority of mortgage intermediaries in the UK; however, it has seen its membership slump following the financial crisis and an exodus of advisers from the market sector. In 2004 there were approximately 11,000 AMI broker firms; this had reduced by more than half in September 2010 to 5,000.

The importance of AMI is underpinned by the fact that approximately 85 per cent of all intermediary business goes through AMI members and that over 60 per cent of all mortgage lending is transacted via mortgage intermediaries.

Those remaining in the mortgage industry feel that they have been let down by many who have offered poor advice to borrowers . The idea to promote the services of mortgage brokers to borrowers has received support form lenders . It is hoped that a focused approach both online and a direct national media campaign will help to restore faith and confidence with consumers.
