Consumer help for mis-sold mortgage claims
Mon, 19 Apr 2010
Following the collapse of some large Mortgage Broker networks since the "credit crunch" consumers have been given some hope that they will be able to receive compensation for mis-sold mortgage claims, by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. Their role is to help people who have lost money as a result of transacting business with an authorised company who is unlikely to be able to offer compensation for mis-sold mortgage claims.

Kate Bartlett, director of operations says: "The Financial Services Compensation Scheme's role is to help people who have lost money as a result of doing business with an authorised firm that is unable or likely to be unable to meet claims made against it. This should help to instil confidence in the financial services sector by ensuring consumers get the compensation they are entitled to when this happens".

People who believe they may have a claim against the firms can contact a specialist in mis-sold mortgage claims who are regulated by the Ministry of Justice.

They will be able to ascertain if a claim is likely to be upheld and also who should pay compensation. The claims company will be able to offer the comfort of the scheme set up as a last resort.
